What exactly does the Harmony Improvisator VST plugin do?

Improvisator is a programmable chorder that outputs chords or arpeggios. It can be controlled by MIDI input, for example to arpeggiate chords or to synchronize them to a host project, or by clicking the harmonic functions of the graphical user interface.

1) Exploring harmonies

The first thing in the process of working with Improvisator is to click chords with the mouse, which you hear immediately. Soon you will find some chords that sound interesting one after another or that fit a given melody. The plugin all the time calculates and presents to the user some more complicated suggestions to stimulate creativity.
As you have inserted your chords of choice into the harmonic progression, which is automatically saved within the host project or which you can store to an external file at any time, you can work with it in different ways:

2) Improvising

Improvisator supports you improvising harmonically as well as melodically: In the „split & transpose“ mode the right half of the keyboard is transposed into the actual key so if you mainly use white keys your melodic improvisation should fit to the harmonies. The left half of the keyboard is used to move on in your harmonic progression and to arpeggiate the chords, i.e. to trigger the voices independently.

3) Using Improvisator in the context of a greater project

There are flexible options to use improvisator to elaborate a piece of music:
1.You can simply record the midi output of Improvisator and work with the notes in your sequencer as you are used to. This will be the method of choice when you only need some interesting chords as raw material to work with or, in contrast, when you have allready elaborated rhythm and arpeggiation within Improvisator with your MIDI keyboard.
2.To be more flexible you can keep Improvisator as a VST in your project and set notes on the MIDI track that triggers Improvisator. Thereby you can elaborate the arpeggiation of chords and the structure of your project while keeping the option to change the progression of harmonies or the key of the project at any time.
